My work @ The Washington Post 🗞️
As The Post’s team lead for social video, I collaborated with 140+ reporters to transform their reporting into short, shareable videos. My work received a 2023 Webby Award for Best Use of Vertical Video across media sectors, and our Instagram account also won under the Social / News & Politics category.
During my tenure, I created 700+ videos, averaging 1M views per video on Instagram. While that was the main platform I worked with, my videos also appeared on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok and The Post’s website and app.
I frequently partnered with journalists to showcase their on-the-ground reporting across the U.S. and world.
After I scheduled a brief consultation with the reporter, they would send clips for our team to edit and optimize across platforms.

I also produced explainers that untangled topics in 90 seconds or less. These either provided context to complicated news stories, or offered practical advice that people could use in their daily lives.
These were often scripted ahead of time, written by myself or the reporter. I then guided reporters on what to shoot.

In addition to reporter dispatches and explainers, I was always looking for trending sound bites and viral moments you couldn’t take your eyes off of.
I consistently monitored live events, social media, and wire video to ensure we were among the first of our competitors to share these must-watch moments.

These videos directly connected our audience with our journalists. They started with a callout for questions asking, “What do you want to know about [topic]?”
I sent the most popular questions to our reporters and then quickly edit their responses.

I was also asked by senior leadership to produce social videos tied to special coverage and major investigations.
